Speeding up

Friends have recently been asking me what my next race will be. After doing 13 marathons in the course of 10ish years, I guess that's to be expect.

The only thing is...I don't know if I want to run for 3-4 hours anymore...well at least, not for right now.

Plus, I'm getting faster at shorter distances. And unless you're Desi Linden, speed doesn't always factor into marathons.

So I'm going to try something new in the coming months - being more intentional about getting strong and faster. I won't go above 10 miles for my "long run" and will focus more on speed for my shorter runs. I'm going to start doing one day a week of hill repeats and do a fartlek treadmill workout once a week. I'll also, of course, continue my daily strength work.

This week's hill repeats; 1/5 mile warm up, 15 minutes of hill repeats and 1/5 a mile + a little extra cool down.

Farlek workout that I invented :)

I'm excited about this new challenge. As I get older, I'm learning to play to my strengths while still pushing myself outside my comfort zone. My main focus is keeping running in a place that's healthy and stress free. I want it to challenge me and let me meet some awesome people. And as my sweet friend C told me, marathons will ALWAYS be there if I ever want to go back. :-D
