Running free

Two weeks ago, on a whim, I decided to run without my watch.

I turned on my strava app on my phone so I would be alerted every half mile but wouldn't be able to view my pace. Instead of working about numbers, I listened to my body. What felt good, what felt bad. When I should push the pace or when I should let up.

The result was negative splits.

The speed work, hill repeats, and focusing more on how I feel versus specific times is making me faster. It's a relief to be more efficient with my running and I have to say I don't really miss the extra miles of marathon training.

I'm realizing that if running doesn't have a strict agenda, it can truly be the most glorious thing in the world and bring a community together.

Plus today I set a PR in the Nelson Challenge, sans watch. I just had my app going and I LISTENED to my body.

I'm excited to see where this new type of running takes me.

XOXO KS
