Quandary Peak

I climbed a mountain this week.

Quandary Peak is the highest summit of the Tenmile Range and is what people in Colorado call a 14er (14,000 feet above sea level). From the start of the trail head to the peak and back, it took us almost 6 hours. We climbed through the trees and eventually through loose rock. During the last hour of the climb, the trail was barley discernible, the temperature dropped and the wind picked up. It was almost a different world of up there.

We were floating above the clouds, looking down at a world made up of perfect blues, greens and yellows. The clouds cast velvet shadows on the sides of the mountains as they floated lazily around, curious as to why there was such a large group of people in their general vicinity. We even saw a mountain goat, who snuck in at the last minute to join the party.

Climbing a mountain really made me realize that I can literally do anything. Sure, I will always have doubt and insecurities. But all of those are surmountable, like Quandary Peak. So cheers to my first 14er. It certainly won't be my last.
